Jets coach Greg Knapp in critical condition

The New York Jets new passing game specialist and assistant coach, Greg Knapp, is in the hospital in critical condition with serious injuries. He was struck by a car while riding a bicycle over the weekend in California, according to Mike Klis who covers the Broncos for 9News.

The Knapp family released a statement through the New York Jets today: “Greg is an amazing father and husband whose passion for life can be felt in all his interactions with people. He is our rock and biggest supporter, pushing us to all strive to better ourselves each day with constant love and inspiration. While many know him for his achievements as a coach, his impact as a father and husband are far greater. We are so fortunate to have him in our lives. We are sincerely thankful to all those who have continued to reach out and provide support – it has meant the world to us. We ask that you continue to pray for Greg and our family during this time.”

Jets Head Coach Robert Saleh also issued a statement: “Greg is such an amazing individual it is hard to imagine the challenge facing him and his family. Greg’s fun nature, kind disposition, and wealth of knowledge has allowed him to make genuine connections with all of our coaches, players and staff since he has been here. I ask that you keep him in your prayers as we all pull for him to recover from this horrific accident.”

Greg Knapp is 58 years old. He is an avid bicyclist who makes his offseason home in Danville, California. While riding his bicycle on Saturday a car swerved into the bike lane and hit Knapp in nearby San Ramon. The driver stopped to render aid, according to Greg Knapp’s agent Jeff Sperbeck.

Knapp was rushed to San Ramon Regional Medical Center before being transferred to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, a San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District spokesman said.

“If everybody could just keep praying because we need a small miracle right now,” his wife, Charlotte Knapp, told NBC. “Just keep him in your prayers.”

Greg Knapp has been coaching in the NFL for 23 years, and has coached for seven different NFL franchises. Knapp has been the offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, Oakland Raiders, Seattle Seahawks and Houston Texans. He was also the QB coach for the Denver Broncos for four years, and was with them when they won the Super Bowl 50 against the Carolina Panthers. Before joining the Jets this season, Knapp most recently spent the past three years with the Atlanta Falcons as their QB Coach.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Greg Knapp and his family.
