Deshaun Watson to Jets is Closer to Reality

THIS IS IT! Deshaun Watson has now officially requested a trade from the Houston Texans. The moment we have all been hoping and praying for has arrived! Deshaun Watson has a no trade clause in his contract, which is the most crucial aspect of this. Why? Because he can literally dictate where he wants to go.

If Deshaun Watson doesn’t want to play for the Miami Dolphins, he will not be traded there. Deshaun has to approve of where he is shipped off to, and as of a week or so ago, as many have reported includong PFF, ESPN, WFAN, and myself, Deshaun Watson’s preferred destination is the New York Jets. HERE WE GO BABY!!!

Deshaun Watson is a big fan of our new head coach, Robert Saleh, as well as our GM, Joe Douglas. This is why hiring Saleh is so much deeper than just a new head coach. It’s a culture change, through and through. We have gone from the team that Anthony Barr leveraged to get a better contract to the team that one of the best young quarterbacks wants to come and play for. And not just Watson!

As we all know, Allen Robinson, one of the best wide receivers in the NFL who is every bit the part of a WR1, and only 27 years old, liked the tweets about Deshaun Watson coming here. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent this coming offseason, and if we have Deshaun Watson, we will without a doubt be his favorite landing spot as well.

Now the trade for Watson won’t be cheap, but who cares, this is Deshaun Watson. You always have to pay for quality, and Watson is as quality as they come. I loved this kid throughout his time at Clemson and wanted him so bad in the 2017 draft. It is incredibly ironic that some of the picks sent to acquire Watson could be from the trade away of the disgruntled player we took instead in 2017.

Now some have said there are character concerns about Watson, even comparing him to Adams. That is so wrong and so far from the truth. Adams made publicly inappropriate comments and actively went out to pursue trades. He was a loud mouth and a bad team player. Deshaun Watson never made any public statements, even though we all knew what was going on. In fact, everything we have heard was due to speculation since Watson did not give us any information. Any teammate of his from Clemson or Houston will tell you how great of a person he is, and how he is a team first player always. He would do anything for his teammates, and them for him. He even has numerous charities including one he started himself right after he got paid by the Texans that helps impoverished families. We will be getting a focused, dedicated, morally upright player who cares about others.

Now to acquire Watson will be costly, but we can swing it. Due to him wanting to come here & controlling where he goes, as well as his hefty contract, I see him costing our 2nd overall pick this season, our highest 2022 1st (cause with Watson we could do better than Seattle next season, so whichever pick is higher), & our 2023 1st. That still leaves us with our 1st from Seattle this season as well as one 1st next season. Also, don’t forget with getting Watson we now can ship off Sam Darnold. With recent retirements, the Saints, Colts, as well as Steelers, Washington, and others could all be in play. Bidding wars drive prices up. It is possible we could walk away with a 1st outright for Sam Darnold, or a package for a 1st, like Sam and our 4th or 5th round pick.

With Allen Robinson, we are good with our starting wide receivers. With Robinson and Mims on the outside and Crowder in the slot, Deshaun Watson will have something the Texans failed to give him, multiple weapons. We need a solid running back, but with the Seattle 1st we could take Travis Etienne or Najee Harris. Both would be excellent additions to this new offense, though Etienne is the better pass catcher.

One thing is for sure, the fact that we are not just in play but the preferred destination and most likely landing spot for Deshaun Watson, is all thanks to Joe Douglas and Robert Saleh. Thank you gentlemen, you have made mine and many other Jets fans dream come true.
